The traditional song and dance festival “Գութան” will be held on August 30 at the Cascade in Yerevan to mark the 120th anniversary of folklorist Hayrik Muradyan.
The event is organized by the “Մրրո” National Art Center, led by Honored Artist of Armenia Arsen Grigoryan. The festival will feature performances of Armenian folk music and dance, paying tribute to Muradyan’s work in collecting and preserving national traditions.
The Cascade’s outdoor setting will serve as the stage for the evening program, bringing together artists, musicians, and the public in a large-scale cultural event. According to organizers, the festival aims to present both traditional and reinterpreted performances of Muradyan’s collected works.
Hayrik Muradyan, born in 1905, is considered one of the most important figures in the preservation of Armenian folk heritage. His extensive research and documentation of songs and dances remain a cornerstone of Armenian cultural history.
The “Գութան” festival has been held annually, each year dedicated to a particular theme of Armenian folk art. This year’s edition highlights Muradyan’s legacy and his role in safeguarding cultural identity through music and dance.
The event is free and open to the public.
